Liebherr-International S.A.

Liebherr is a family-owned manufacturer of construction and mining machinery, cranes, aerospace components and energy systems, operating in over 50 countries since 1949.

Liebherr-International S.A. is a family-owned manufacturer of construction equipment and related machinery, founded in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company operates across 13 product segments, from construction and mining machinery to aerospace components and sustainable energy solutions, and employs more than 50,000 people through over 150 group companies in more than 50 countries. Ownership has remained entirely within the founding family across three generations.

The firm's origins lie in a single invention: the world's first mobile tower crane, designed by Hans Liebherr in 1949 to be easily transported and quickly assembled on construction job sites. The product range has since widened to include large mining excavators, mobile cranes, ultra-precise aerospace components, wind energy solutions, hydrogen-powered construction equipment and intelligent automation systems for industrial and construction applications. Technical work spans heavy machinery design and engineering, mobile crane engineering, mining equipment engineering, aerospace component manufacturing and wind and hydrogen energy technologies.

Engineering and quality standards set by the founder remain the guiding principles of the business, alongside a preference for long-term thinking over short-term gains. Recent product development has concentrated on sustainable solutions, including wind energy technology, hydrogen-powered construction site equipment and automation systems. The company's roots trace back to post-war German craftsmanship, when it began as a master builder's enterprise.
